Changes to form RC59 and CRA Online Access for Business Clients coming in May 2017

The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) has announced an important change coming to form RC59, Business Consent in May 2017.

The form gave third party individuals or groups, like JMH &CO., online access to your business information. This form had to be mailed or faxed into your local tax centre, which meant it could take up to 15 days for a representative to have online access to tax information.

Alternatively, third party individuals or groups could register themselves as a business’s representative using the CRA’s online ‘Represent a Client’ service and filling out an authorization request.

As of May 15, form RC59 will no longer be used to get online access. It will only be used to request access to your business information by phone or mail.

By using the “Represent a Client” service, business reps will have access to your information in five days, instead of 15 days when using form RC59. This method also allows for representatives to see which clients have authorized access and if those authorizations expire.
