There’s a common misconception when it comes to accountants – there’s the impression accountants only really work for a couple months of the year. Yes, tax season is the busiest time of the year for us – a large portion of our clientele reach out to us to file their taxes, and then it’s, “see you next year!”
For some, that’s really not a problem. Some clients have very simple and straight forward tax needs. If that’s the case, there’s nothing wrong with meeting your accountant to file and get squared away with the government for another year. For others however, there are reasons why it can be beneficial to meet with your accountant on a regular basis, or at least a few times per year.
We Want To Know You!
The most obvious reason, is for us to get to know you better! It can be difficult to develop and maintain a relationship with clients if we only have the chance to spend a couple hours with you at each year-end. When there’s a personal connection, there’s a vested interest in your successes. We want to know your business, your goals, your dreams and aspirations – we want to know you. If we know where you’d like to be five years from now, we can help you strategize your finances to achieve your long-terms goals. In many cases, planning a few years in advance can help to significantly reduce potential tax issues.
When you chat with your accountant regularly, chances are we’ll be aware of small (or big) problems you could be having – maybe even issues you might not be aware of. We are up-to-date on new laws and regulations that you may not know about yet. Another set of trusted eyes on your business, especially during transitional times, could prevent downfalls and lead to achievements and milestones.
An accountant is responsible in overseeing the financials of your business, which is one of the most important and critical parts of a business. It doesn’t make much sense to only tap into that resource once a year. We want to ensure the continued success of our clients and their businesses, since it is in our best interest as well.
